Fifth generation vintner and artist, Darcie Kent, lives by the motto, “celebrate art, wine, and the natural world.”
Darcie’s ancestors set up one of the first wineries in America outside of St. Louis, MO, back in the 1800s when the area was a thriving wine country. In the 1990s, Darcie dreamed of re-starting the family legacy in Livermore, California, just outside of San Francisco. She, her husband Dave, and two young children purchased a small vineyard and eventually built a house.
Today, Darcie lives surrounded by the beautiful rolling foothills, vineyards, and animals that inspire her paintings. Her family grows 100% of the grapes that go into their wines, which are also barreled, bottled and produced at their small winery across the road. Darcie and Dave walk the vineyards every day they are home.
Our breezy foothills are as famous for their wind farms as they are for their vineyards! Livermore’s ideal combination of elevation (up to 1,000 feet above sea level), persistent winds and an impressive 40-degree diurnal swing work in concert to extend hang-time for each grape, creating rich fruit with great depth of flavor.
The daily contrast of warm days and cold nights produces deeply colored wines with natural acidity and fully ripe flavors.
Our coolest vineyard site: this north facing slope descends into an arroyo that traps coastal fog, and is beset by cool, Pacific breezes.
In addition to Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, we grow Grüner Veltliner too.
10 acres.
DeMayo Chardonnay got national attention when it became the “house white” at several Four Seasons hotels, and was poured at the First Lady’s Luncheon in Washington DC in 2011.
A block within the “larger” Triska Vineyard, it is cool climate.
1 acre.
A small west facing block of Bordeaux varieties, bordering an old flagstone firepit at the edge of the vineyard.
Our club members have fond memories of release parties held around bonfires at the edge of the vineyard.
4 acres.
A Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard named after the historic (and iconcally purple) barn just off to its side.
Much of the vineyard is planted to the esteemed Clone 30 Cabernet Sauvignon.
West facing, 20 acres.
Like many of our wines, both Firepit and Pistachio Wines give back to a cause close to our hearts- and to our vineyards!
Our family also has pledged proceeds from our wines to local women’s health, local pet shelters, and to relief in Ukraine.
Proceeds from every bottle of Firepit are donated to California State Parks.
Proceeds from every bottle of Firepit are donated to Tri-Valley Conservancy.
We hand harvest 85% of our vineyards by hand. We harvest at night and in the early morning.
We tend the vineyards by hand too, such as mowing the grass, and do not use pesticide sprays. This is personally important to us, as the Kent family lives on the vineyard!
We sort the grapes by hand. Everyone joins in, from our tasting room associates to our winemaking interns, to friends and family.
In this essential step, we remove green stems, leaves, and even the occasional grasshopper and lizard, making sure that only grapes enter the wine!
We invest in a world class barrel program. Our Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon are fermented in 100% French Oak, with new barrels being acquired and added to the mix each year. By steaming barrels, we ensure the greatest purity of flavor, and also cut 90% of water needs.
